What happened this week with regard to the Covid-19 situation in Malta was similar to the previous week, statistician Vincent Marmara said.
In his weekly blog for The Malta Independent on Sunday, Marmara said that the number of new cases has remained low, so much so that we had one day in which no cases were registered. This was the first time it happened since last summer.
We had only 20 cases this past week, just 0.2 per cent out of the swab tests that were taken, a similar percentage to the one registered in the previous week.
No new deaths were recorded and the number of recovered patients was also close to the number of recoveries of the previous week, Marmara said.
The number of active cases has continued to drop, also because this past week the number of patients who recovered was double the number of new cases.
At present, more than half the population has been fully vaccinated, Marmara said, while two-thirds of the people have received at least one dose.
The r-factor at this stage is 0.22, slightly lower than what it was last week.
In other countries like France and Italy, the number of new cases has continued to drop, while in the UK the number of new cases has slightly increased.
